RAID Driver Install Crashes XP

December 20, 2007

I was excited to get my system up and running using my new FOXCONN P35A motherboard. I inserted the driver CD as XP didn’t have support for some of the devices on the mobo. Specifically, the NIC and audio drivers were not supported.

A nice little interface came up via the CD and I saw a link that would install all the drivers. I thought that this was a nice time saver over having to do each one individually, so I clicked the link. Everything installed fine and the system rebooted as required. The Windows loading screen appeared and then the system crashed and rebooted.

This happened over and over again. Obviously one of the drivers was causing a conflict. I went back through the manual to see what I actually installed and one of the drivers was for RAID. I don’t have a RAID setup, so installing it was a mistake. Plus, third party RAID drivers should be installed via a floppy disk during the XP OS install. I reinstalled Windows and loaded all the mobo drivers (except the RAID one of course) and all is good now.
