New Motherboard and VGA Cooler

December 11, 2007

After I bought my current motherboard for my dual core rig, I stumbled across another unit that was a bit better. It had a great rebate and sold out before I could purchase it. The rebate came again and I jumped on it this time. The new board is a FOXCONN P35A and it should offer better overclocking ability than I have now. I received the board and I am in the process of rebuilding my dual core system. I will comment soon on the new motherboard and its performance.

I have also been looking for a new VGA cooler for my XFX Geforce 8400 GS video card. It performs well, but runs hot because of its passive cooler (no fan). Another negative of the giant heatsink is that it doesn’t touch (cool) the video card’s memory. There is a limited amount of space under the heatsink, so temperatures stay relatively high. I should have purchased the version that had a fan. Oh well. I haven’t changed a VGA cooler yet, so this will be a good learning experience. I have my eye on a few units, but need to do a little more research on what will fit a Geforce 8400 series video card.
