DIY Projector Project

August 16, 2007

I came across some plans on the internet on how to build a DIY LCD projector. The components are simple. All that is needed to get started on the project is a 14″-15″ LCD monitor and an old school overhead projector. The backlight can be out on the monitor – all that is needed is a working screen and the monitor’s electronic guts. These items get strategically placed on top of the old school overhead projector. There needs to be some space between the LCD and the overhead screen with a small fan providing airflow. This makes sure the LCD screen doesn’t overheat.

The finishing step after the parts are together is to build a simple enclosure for the device to cut off excess light spillage from the overhead unit. Hook up a laptop, PC, or rig your cable/satellite to the VGA monitor input somehow and off you go. There is a great YouTube video that shows how the basic setup works. I have everything ordered to give this project a try. I will keep you updated. I really want to try playing Battlefield 2142 on a huge screen – that would rock!
